Another question open to all about evolution . Does R&S prove that evolution is in fact true as far as ?

Survival of the fittest goes ? I mean after all atheists stay while many fundamentalists seem to disappear . I have even seen quite a few theists change their beliefs to anything from moderate theism to Deism Even becoming agnostics or atheists . I have yet to see anyone become a fundimentalist christian in almost 2 years here . Also according to the latest polls belief in creationism is down 2% in the last 4 years while moderate theism is up 4 % and atheism is up 5 % . Why is this happening if we are not evolving away from fundamentalism ?Another question open to all about evolution . Does R%26amp;S prove that evolution is in fact true as far as ?
Why can't all the ';Fundamentalists'; be like Eds? We need a site full of nice people like him no matter what thier faith

Please make your satire funnier.

Increased incidence of atheism and non-belief, and less-impressive ';recruitment figures'; for fundamentalist or evangelical theism (exception: Islam) are examples of learning and CULTURAL evolution, not biological evolution.

Fitness for physical survival and reproductive fitness have no significant correlation with personal belief systems, except to the extent that a lack of critical thinking skills or a failure to consistently use those skills is dangerous to life and limb.
As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. When people are faced with death do they reach for a book by Darwin or the Bible? Do they seek the help of atheists or call for a priest?

Christianity may not be very popular, but when it comes to times of tragedy or uncertainty, it has one thing going for it that evolution and science don't: God.
Okay, I'm not really an evolutionist but even I can see your argument is flawed. Evolution is different from opening your intellectual options. Just a thought.

Edit - two thumbs down? For what? Not being an Evolutionist or disagreeing with the poster? Just curious.

Okay, I guess I can see that rational thought *might* be a survival trait. What rational thoughts do dogs have, by the way? Or cows or cougars or -- well, you get the picture.
Just a quick comment - evolution is NOT about 'survival of the fittest.' After all - just how fit is a tapeworm, yet they are the products of evolution as much as any other organism.

R%26amp;S is proving it. In Science %26amp; Mathematics, the Fundamentalists have all but been driven out. The inadequacies of Creationists are far more detrimental there.
I wouldn't apply these facts to evolution, per se, but rather to a new and developing spread of reason.
i guess a few people are starting to question and listen.

good for us. =D
Eva,

Great Avatar! I was an agnostic/atheist for some time and became a Christian which is the reverse of what you claim to be evolutionary progress. I do not claim this as evolutionary either. I had a near-death experience while in my high school years and began searching for GOD. My wife and I have been married for 33 years this month and became Christians twenty years ago. I am what some consider as a ';Fundamental Christian';. Thus I do not believe that R%26amp;S actually proves evolution in these cases any more than it proves much of anything else. I do enjoy discourse with friends on this site though. My friends, please do not throw rocks at some of our young people on here. If you must, throw them at me. I am a bit older and can be sacrificed if need be. Have a great weekend.

Thanks,

Eds

R%26amp;S only proves that people can become addicted to R%26amp;S.

In relevance to evolution, here are few interesting articles. The first one is about how closely our brains resemble those of chimpanzees, our LONG removed cousins. I stumbled across it today and thought it was somewhat interesting.

';An area of the brain involved in the planning and production of spoken and signed language in humans plays a similar role in chimpanzee communication, researchers report online on February 28th in the journal Current Biology.'; http://www.physorg.com/news123423961.htm鈥?/a>

';If brain size had anything to do with innovation and creativity, some scientists expected to see a link between the so-called Mind's Big Bang (the emergence of bone tools and cave paintings that occurred between 50,000 and 70,000 years ago) and the emergence of modern-size human brains. Not the case.'; http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/2008鈥?/a>

';The world is our creation, it is a thing created by mind, it is a mental construct. This is what BrainMeta seeks to communicate to others, so that they may open their eyes to this fact, so that they may go on to create something more than what is, and to instill the world with new and greater meaning. Too many today do not appreciate the essentially 'constructive nature' of reality. It is all a mental construct. We are deceived by the fact that we are humans with human consciousness.... we rarely venture outside the realms of our human consciousness, and thus we see the world with human eyes. Naturally, the vast majority of people are blind to this because humans are predisposed and 'programmed' to construct the world in human terms.'; http://brainmeta.com/
Survival of the ';fittest'; is a myth. When you are the ';fittest'; to survive Ice %26amp; Snow, and the ice age ends, oops! You aren't the commodity anymore. Nature takes great measures to insure that recessive and ill-serving skills are stored and maintained along with the ';best'; skills and traits. That is why 3-8% of the population is atheist, because some age may come along where being an angry, ignorant, rantipole* is a GOOD survival trait instead of a bad one. And God loves atheists too!

As a former fundamentalist, I would suggest to you that many teachers of the faith don't instill an interest in inquiry and questioning in young people, because there is a sort of ';how you gonna keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Paree'; mentality.

During the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic Church suffered a similar problem and their solutions was to create the Jesuit order. Jesuits are like philosophical shock troops that study all the ';tricks of the trade'; of moral persuasion and rhetoric and they use this knowledge to try and keep the kids in the dark while still answering their questions with cogent ';real world'; answers that hold up to rhetorical games an outside attacks. But the Jesuit model is a bit shifty so I would suggest just a little ';field knowledge' for those who will instruct the faithful, so that they can immunize them against the allure of the humanistic, pluralistic worldview.

Also many fundies may just be retreating and not disappearing in actuality.

Have a great day!

*A rantipole is a noisy boy or girl.
buddy.. I'm not saying this to be mean, but you really need to get a life. really really really.
