Question: How can a man made intellegence quotient determine a person's true intellect?

Forgive me, but I kind of find the IQ testing thing to be a bit ridiculous.

How can you ever measure a person's true intelligence by a 21st Century man made test?

Some of it seems biased in ways. Just because a person doesn't master a certain subject doesn't mean that he is feeble minded. I think that all people serve a good purpose for different things that can't be added up with math or race science.

Someone could be labeled as a ';Genius';, but his life could be a complete failure when it comes to the work force and attaining a stable lifestyle.

I don't want to come off as sounding stupid or ignorant, but that's just my opinion on the Intelligence Quotient.

What are your ideas on this subject?Question: How can a man made intellegence quotient determine a person's true intellect?
Think of the IQ test as an incomplete summary of a person's cognitive profile. Every person has a bunch of different intelligences: musical, mathematical, linguistic, etc. The IQ test measures some (like logical intelligence) in a direct way, and others (like interpersonal intelligence) not so well. When you said that all people serve a good purpose, I think you already showed an understanding of the different ways to be smart.

My biology professor used the following analogy: how do you identify the ';best'; basketball player? Should you go by the points he scores? How about the rebounds he gets? Or how many championship rings he wins? Michael Jordan didn't get as many rebounds as Wilt Chamberlain, or as many championships as Bill Russell. That said, however, you can still get some idea of a person's basketball ability by giving them a physical tryout. If they can't even do basic athletics, then you CAN predict they won't play well. Conversely, just because someone is a great athlete, that doesn't mean they are very good at the sport of basketball in particular. So think of the IQ test as a basic tryout of their thinking skills. It can't predict your success in any one field, but it has value as an intellectual summary.Question: How can a man made intellegence quotient determine a person's true intellect?
';everyone sees something in someone';

Our minds are as different as our finger prints -

no two are identical. Palmistry also says the same

thing. Every human is unique. Not only do our

organs differ, but our personalities differ. Each

human develops different goals, and has special

traits or feelings which differ in a million

different ways from others.

That every person is unique and has an intrinsic worth.

It can't. IQ tests can be used to prove whatever the test writers want them to prove.
Your assertions of inadequate or biased genetic tests are forty or fifty years old. Much better tests have been devised. We have tests now like Raven's Matrices that CANNOT have a bias. We understand (and have proven via factor analysis) that there is a single overarching capacity called G that reflects real intelligence and we can measure it accurately. You need to read MODERN science.

Did you know that IQ (g-factor) correlates highly with income for groups? Did you know that it predicts not only your mathematical and logical capacity, but your capacity to create art?

Did you know that it is so well correlated with rapidity of neural processing that it can be measured with how well you respond to repeatedly being prompted to press a single button?

IQ has come a LONG way since it was first conceived of, and most people are completely oblivious to the real facts about it.
IQ tests prove nothing but your ability at IQ tests. Efforts are made to make them as all-embracing as possible but they can't cover anything, and what do you define as intelligence anyway?

Take me - I have an IQ of 144 (Stanford-Binet) as evidenced by the result of a properly moderated IQ test, which puts me in the top 0.3% of the population. It hasn't resulted in an exceptionally well-paid job as one thing IQ tests can't measure is ';people skills'; which I am notoriously bad at.

Very high IQ people in the ';very high IQ clubs'; seem to be very, shall we say, anal-retentive...
Just wondering is this in response to End_Libtardation's question? You do make a good point though. Man has always looked for ways to bring down our own kind, and lets just say IQ test are just the way to do that. It's just something to boost your ego, well that is what I think.

';Just because a person doesn't master a certain subject doesn't mean that he is feeble minded.';

Exactly! I mean, I stink at math, well not horribly stink it's just not my thing. But does this mean that I am an idiot b/c I'm not a human calculator? That is like me putting down someone who isn't a good writer, or can't grasp politics/history (things I actually like). People are all different and are better at certain things than others.

Btw this is off topic, but I've been wondering, who are you? What I mean is that I saw your question a few days ago, and notice ';oh she's one of my contacts';,but I'm guessing you change your user name?
